About Katrina Shearlaw

I am a kiln-formed glass artist, teacher and manager of the workshop based in Rowsham, Buckinghamshire, UK. Surrounded by the beautiful Chilterns known for its outstanding natural beauty, but never too far from London or Oxford, I find my inspirations and interests are sparked by both rural and urban environments. I have a fascination for all things vibrant and colourful, and this is the aesthetic I am drawn to in my work, picking out details with bright colours and textures, regardless of the original inspiration.

My design process, which continues to develop as I experiment, utilises a variety of glass fusing techniques. Many of my artworks require multiple firings, to bring various textures and inspirations into my glass. Much of my work involves layers or intricate placement which have been meticulously pieced together to create maximum impact and form heightened, stylised imagery. Texture is important. Glass is tactile, and I hope my work invites you to touch it. I create both functional pieces and decorative artworks.

I teach courses for all levels at my well-appointed studio. As a teacher, I love nothing more than to share my enthusiasm and show students what they can achieve and how to overcome their own boundaries. It’s so rewarding to see their confidence grow and the beautiful things they make. The workshop offers students a truly unique experience with the added benefit of having its own pottery which means it’s possible to incorporate a course where students are taught to make bespoke moulds, meaning the possibilities for shaping the glass are limitless. The workshop boasts three kilns and extensive professional equipment as well as having a beautiful bright and spacious gallery space to showcase works of art.

My work is currently available to view at Woburn Mosaics

Katrina at Manor Farm Fused Glass

Manor Farm Fused Glass was founded by my mum in 2008, She was a glass artist for 13 years but has now stepped back. My love of glass began to develop when mum’s health started deteriorating. I would help her run the workshops so she could continue with her passion for as long as possible. I was immediately hooked, and it very quickly became “our passion.” I found creating with glass took my mind to a place no other art has, it gave me such a sense of tranquillity and freedom, and the need to explore further. I take great pride that my mums love of glass and ceramics can continue through my hands and our shared vision.

Throughout my life I have always enjoyed a wide variety, both career and of all things creative including ceramics, wire work, lino printing, water colour painting, traditional teddy bear making, upcycling and interior design to name but a few.
During lockdown, my creativity in glass really bloomed. I focused on undertaking as much learning and training as possible to expand my skillset and develop my creative voice. Through all the hours of experimenting where often many failures were the result, came ideas and vision to see them in a different light, with pieces often being broken and recycled into new projects, affording them a new beginning, turning them into bespoke pieces of work. I have gained a wealth of knowledge in a wide variety of techniques and my addiction and love to this medium has only deepened further. There is always an element of surprise when working with glass as you never know 100% what will happen in the kiln, this makes all the successes that much more rewarding when you know it’s not a simple process!

Manor Farm Fused Glass is situated just off the A418 and has ample parking.
