Two Stage Weave workshop - £65 per 2 hour workshop (4hrs total to complete both stages). Please call to discuss dates
This is an advanced workshop which gets created over two stages. Previous experience with cutting glass is required to ensure you get the most out of this workshop. Students that have completed the strip cutting and geometric workshop would be well prepared for this project.
During stage one, we will discuss the various options you have with a weave project. You will be encouraged to think about what you want to do with your glass work and where it will be displayed so I can guide you on the best options when it comes to choosing from the wide variety of glass available to you. You will then be taught how to make your own moulds out of fibre paper Instead of using pre-made bisque moulds that don’t allow you as much variation. Finally, you then cut your strips and place them over your moulds ready for their slump firing.
Two firings are included in your workshop. One to make the weave strips and a second firing to fuse everything together once you’ve cut the additional strips to thread through.
The second stage of your workshop will involve thoroughly cleaning the fibre paper off your slumped strips and cutting more glass strips to thread through the slumped ones. Your fully weaved project is then ready to go back in the kiln to fuse them all together. After firing, your weave is suitable as a sun catcher, or I can show you a few additional options so you could turn it into some wonderful wall art which you could buy a frame for.
If you would like your weaved project to be slumped into a free-standing U bend so it acts like a funky tea light or bowl for example this would require going back in the kiln for a 3rd time and additional firings are £15
